Acquiring different levels of VRChat interaction depends on the virtual reality equipment and how many components a player adds to their setup. The act of acquiring these have different names or nicknames depending on the group of players.

A player having "full body" means that they have VR gear which tracks their whole body, including leg movement.

As some players cultures differ this article aims to explain and list words, "slang" or "nicknames" for their various setups. In roleplaying circles for example acquiring control over new body parts became known as getting "surgery" as they add more upgrades.

"Cheap Hands DLC"

Refers Oculus Rift 2 sensors.

"Full Room Tracking"

Refers to 3 HTC Vive Trackers attacked to each foot and hip.

Leg Tracking[]

"Getting legs or "Leg surgery" or FBT

Refers to users that have full body tracking.

"Legs DLC"

Refers to users that have full body tracking. It can be done in multiple different ways. You must have hands DLC to do the legs DLC.

"Cheap Legs"

Refers to Rift users that use an Xbox Kinect to do leg tracking. It's pretty bad at times.

"True legs"

Refer to HTC users who tapes HTC Vive Trackers to their body. It looks somewhat like a hockey puck and is a device to enable legs and waist to be tracked.

Types of equipment for Leg Tracking[]

  • HTC Vive Trackers - at least 3 required for Full Body Tracking
  • XBox Kinect

Oculus Quest[]

Being an integrated stand-alone device the Oculus Quest is more akin to a cellphone with VR goggles. Quest users generally have a more difficult time in VRChat than regular VR users who depend on PC hardware to render the game.

In order for Quest users to join worlds they have to be specifically made for it and use custom assets in Unity. Even avatars have to be adapted for Quest, otherwise they will only appear as the default unknown avatar. Not only that, but they are also specifically sensitive to lobbies having too many players at once, making the user lag, creating an overall bad experience.

Sometime Quest users are discriminated against or even joked about because of the many drawbacks when interacting with the rest of VRChat.
