xQc getting "trapped" by Java

A "trap" in VRChat culture is generally a male who uses a female avatar and or pretends to be a woman. Traps in VRChat can be mute, speak with a male voice, female voice or any voice for that matter.

The context of how the word is used is important as it can be offensive depending on its usage. It should also be noted that the meaning of the word can be different outside of VRChat and interpreted differently in other social circuits.

Trapping[]

The act of "trapping" is generally performed by a male who pretends to be a female with the intent of tricking another male to think that they are female. This is done for entertainment purposes sometimes with an eventual reveal of the persons true gender to the shock (or joy) of the person getting "trapped".

The person "trapping" doesn't have to be a "trap" or identify as a trap themselves.

History[]

The word "trap" predates the existence of VRChat and has a history of internet culture and several memes related to sexuality and gender.

Notes[]

  • The word "trap" shouldn't be confused with "trans" as misgendering someone is offensive.
  • Calling someone who identifies as female, trans or related a "trap" intentionally is generally considered offensive.
  • Some players in VRChat proudly self-identifies as "traps" making it a form of non-binary gender.
  • For players who identify as traps, gender specific pronouns are usually interchangeable. (He/she etc)
