"Once a Shiba, always a Shiba." ― Pikapetey (Shiba King: Assassination)
The Shiba King is a YouTube video and short film series centered around the many often drunken antics of The Shiba Community within VRChat created by Rectal Bisque. The series follows various Shiba Squad members including Pikapetey, the "Shiba King" who created most of the avatars the members, in their non-scripted and funny moments inside the platform.
The Shiba King premiered on YouTube on December 3rd, 2018, and will conclude in early 2026 after 16 episodes, 18 shorts, and one feature film. The first three episodes were received with a large amount of viewership and popularity that spilled into VRChat itself with membership in The Shiba Squad growing exponentially, racking up 2 million views altogether. This was due to the drunken misadventures and comedic unscripted moments which Rectal Bisque recorded in their nightly sessions that led to the popularity of the Shiba community along with select members.
The Shiba King 2.0 - (2018)
The series announced it's conclusion with The Shiba King: Fear and Loathing in 2026 yet other projects related to the Shibas such as Shiba Squad Survivor by Drowns continues to bring activity to the community.

Creation and Rising Popularity: (2018-2019)[]
Pikapetey in The Shiba King (2018)
The Shiba King was created by Rectal Bisque (known as MysteriousAnimatorX at this time), who had spent nearly two decades working as an animator or storyboard artist in Hollywood. He was acquainted with many figures in the online animation world, including that of Pikapetey. In late-2018, months after the initial boom of VRChat from the Ugandan Knuckles craze, Petey was frequently on VRChat with the new creation of his Shiba avatar. These avatars created a community called "The Shiba Squad" which was centered around these avatars made by Petey, and at this time was around 20 people. Petey reached out to Bisque about seeing him use the avatar and the "motion-capture technology" that VRChat provided. Bisque created an account and joined, recording an intoxicated Pikapetey showing him VRChat, full body tracking, and his Shibas. The video was uploaded onto his YouTube channel on December 3rd, 2018, as The Shiba King.
The Shiba King - Part 3 (2019)
The short quickly became his most-watched video and caused many viewers to join VRChat in search of getting their own Shiba avatar, which Petey at this time had created himself. Bisque would release more videos such as The Shiba King 2.0 and The Shiba King - Part 3 which introduced notable key figures such as BiscuitFister, Glaide, ILikeBurgers, and others who'd become celebrities within The Shiba Squad but even VRChat itself. More and more people wanted to get in on the action with the Squad and acquire a Shiba avatar from Pikapetey. After a large amount of stress from creating the avatars and an incident that stopped his heart, Petey put the assets for the avatar out for free and allowed users to create their own characters.
MysticWolf and Snowpup (The Shiba King 8 - Dab on The Haters, 2019)
2019 was the largest year for The Shiba King with 7 videos and the introduction of Shiba Shorts as content that would be more digestible and frequent. More notable Shiba celebrities would appear in this era such as MysticWolf and his real-life son Snowpup, Klaüs, Im FUBAR, Wooot, and others. The Shiba King 8 - Dab On The Haters was the most popular video of the year detailing Mysticwolf and Snowpup's dichotomy and was the longest video so far. A reaction video for the premiere to members of the Squad was also uploaded. While Bisque would work on longer videos, Shiba Shorts allowed him to post content from weekly events and "keep the YouTube algorithm happy" while the Squad continued to grow.

On November of 2019, MysticWolf and Snowpup would run into financial trouble and a video along with a GoFundMe would be uploaded to raise funds for the single father and son. The crowdfund was a success and raised $7,470. A "thank you" video was made soon after.
By the end of the year, it was estimated that nearly 1,000 people were either interacting in The Shiba Squad regularly, or had their own Shiba avatar. User EvanTheFloydian would also create the documentary, "The Shiba Squad: A VRChat Documentary" detailing the first year of the Shiba Squad, which was released on the first-year anniversary on October 29th, 2019.
The Pandemic, Shiba King Assassination: (2020-2022)[]
Bisque had begun working on longer and scripted videos such as The Shiba King - The Trial of Pikapetey (A VRChat short film) in early 2020.
Toilet Paper Rain! (Shiba Shorts Plague Dogs PART 2, 2020)
When The COVID-19 Pandemic had closed down the world in March of 2020, various users found themselves quarantined at home with a large amount of free time. This was cataloged in a new short series, "Plague Dogs."
Well-known figure of The Shiba King videos, Glaide, passed away from heart failure on October 24th, 2020, just five days before the 2nd anniversary party of The Shiba Squad. A funeral was held for him in VRChat and he was memorialized in the end credits of Virtual Game Grumps - SHIBA GRUMPS.
Shiba King: Assassination (2022)
In the midst of the pandemic continuing quarantine for more than a year, EvanTheFloydian reached out to Rectal Bisque about creating a feature film as one final act to the Shiba King videos. For the next two years, The Shiba Squad collectively worked on Shiba King: Assassination, a 1 hour 36 minute-long movie about a murder mystery centered on the assassination of Pikapetey. The film was met with positive reviews but acquired about only 20,000 views within a year. This would be the last installment of the series for multiple years.
During production of Assassination, Bisque's hard drive containing raw footage of Shiba King videos going back towards 2019 had been broken and erased, he was unable to retrieve the data.
Break, Fear and Loathing: (2023-2026)[]
After Assassination, Rectal Bisque turned his focus to more short-form content centered in VRChat but no longer centered on just the Shibas. He would release his "VRTrash" series, an additional Shiba Grumps short, and various clips of him playing PUBG: Battlegrounds with friends.
The Shiba King - Cancelled (2025)
Bisque had felt he was neglecting his professional career and felt it was time to end The Shiba King for good. He would release Shiba King: Cancelled, the first installation to the franchise in three years full of older footage and clips that were more political satire in nature. It spiked in popularity and acquired more views than his most recent videos.
Shiba Wars, a video created in 2023 by EvanTheFloydian was released in mid-2025, the first Shiba Shorts video in four years and the last in the series.
Shiba King: Fear and Loathing would be announced in October of 2025, and contains real world footage of Bisque, Evan, Drowns, Redscwerel, and other Shibas at the Midwest Furfest Convention with a parody theme of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The video will release in early-2026 as the final installation of the franchise.
Blu-Rays[]
In October 2025 at the 7th anniversary party for The Shiba Squad, a two-disc Blu-ray was announced that would be given away and sold containing all the Shiba King videos and shorts, Shiba King: Assassination, Shiba King: Fear and Loathing, Shiba Grumps, and various extras including creator commentary.
Controversies[]
Shibas cheering each other on while drinking (The Shiba King - Part 3, 2019)
The majority of funny moments included in the videos showed moderate to severe consumption of alcohol, and members were regularly getting wasted or passing out even inside virtual reality. A "peer pressure" culture was said to have risen through the popularity of the videos and in attempts to be included in events. A large part of the humor and subculture of the videos included references to alcohol abuse and anti-sobriety. In late-2019, every weekend usually had numerous Shiba Squad members passing out or becoming sick from alcohol abuse. However, once the COVID-19 Pandemic started in early 2020, alcohol abuse in the community started to decrease. Mild weekend binge drinking still occurs even to this present day, but the amount of alcohol consumption is reportedly "at a healthy level" for most drinkers in The Shiba Squad.
Shiba Trump in Shiba King - Cancelled (2025)
Shiba King - Cancelled was released in mid-2025 as a compilation of old footage and clips that were more mature and politically incorrect. This included a skit of a Shiba version of U.S. president Donald Trump giving a satirical speech to the viewer with jokes including references to other notable celebrity and political figures. Select viewers reacted negatively to the video and comments were put on pause.
In late-2025, towards The Shiba King's conclusion, a video using AI was made to tease the creation of a Blu-ray two-disc collection for The Shiba Squad to be released in 2026. Many viewers critiqued the use of text-to-video AI even though Rectal Bisque used the video (created by EvanTheFloydian) in a short comedic sense and not as an actual advertisement.
