Who is Sigurd Holt?[]
Sigurd Holt is the captain of the town guards and a self proclaimed coward, he arrived to Cari Town with the main group after the renovations were completed. He is afraid of a lot of things and seems to only get along with animals. However, due to his promise with his mother to become a warrior, he endures the guard work to peruse his own objectives.
He was promoted a couple weeks after the renovations on recommendation from a CAF Officer.
History[]
Son of Solveig the Wolf. Considered the runt and black sheep of his family. He would much rather read books, write stories, and sing rather than do battle. Personally trained for battle by his mother, a well known and respected Shield Maiden and leader of their Clan, and his Uncle, a fierce shamanic warrior.
After the disappearance of his mother, he and his family began to search for her. Sigurd’s desperate investigation took him to his father, Alarict Holt, who eventually held him captive and cut him off from the rest of his family. Sigurd eventually escaped from his father after several months by stealing items and coin from the camp and made his way back to Cari, after previously visiting, in a desperate hope to find something that could lead him to his mother, but most importantly, to hide from his father.
Years prior to his mother’s disappearance and his arrival to Cari Town, Sigurd was part of a raid on another rival clan that had been causing his clan grief. Along with his sister, Uncle, and several other warriors they attacked the town in retaliation. Sigurd engaged in a fight with one of the shield maidens of the rival clan. In a heavily one-sided fight, Sigurd took the Shield Maiden’s spear to leg. In a visciral reaction from the wound, Sigurd's helmet fell grom his head. In this moment, the Shield Maiden hesitated, and in that split second Sigurd drove his axe into her neck. It was then Sigurd realized who the Shield Maiden was, Frida. The woman he had been seeing for several months, the woman he was in love with, and one he gave an oath to marry. Upon seeing his grave mistake, Sigurd collapsed in shame and despair and prepared himself for his own death. Sigurd was only able to survive due to the quick actions of his sister, Astrid, and his uncle’s knowledge of shamanic medicines. This moment is what changed Sigurd’s life slowly causing him to believe he is cursed by the gods and undeserving of anything good. He attributes this specific moment as where everything began to go wrong and his descent from fearless warrior to coward.
Due to previous events at Cari Town and long conversations with various people, Sigurd decided to embrace who he was once more and dropped the surname Holt and once again used his people's naming conventions. Thus Sigurd restoring his original name, Sigurd Solveigsson.
Trivia[]
- Sigurd has given multiple people different last names. He has stated that is last name was "Holt" as well as "Solveigsson" to people. He eventually began to exclusive use "Solveigsson".
- On several occasions he has mentioned his sister is quite taller than himself.
