Day One[]
Arrival[]
The students arrived at the CAF operated docks in the evening, bypassing the city of Antioch and the Inquisition entirely this time thankfully. They then moved to Camp Duat swiftly, being flanked on all sides by curious Cobra. On the way they spotted a Land Worm in the distance, and moved into the safety of the rocky region by their camp. Once there they met with CAF Lieutenant Kira Scott and were told to unpack.
Once they were done unpacking the Cadets were gathered and divided into two groups for two missions. Ardent Veil, Ignis, and General Squad was sent to the Mines to scout out the location because it is a hot spot for Worm activity and is reportedly where their Queen resides. The other squads were left behind to man the walls.
Scouting the Mines[]
Ardent Veil, Ignis, and General Squad left soon after to scout the mines, being told to go lightly armored and to be very quiet. They circles wide to the north closer to Antioch to enter the quarry from the more open side so they would not be ambushed as easily. Then they slowly made their way up the winding paths, narrowly avoiding Worms on several occasions. Once at the top, they reconvened and began observing the entrance to the Mines. They began discussing their findings but they heard a scream and looked down to see a man fleeing the entrance. Chipz called for action to save the man but they could not act in time, and he was eaten by a Worm in just seconds. Following this they fled the Quarry, nearly being attacked by another Worm right at the exit.
Clearing the Tomb[]
The group that had stayed behind, Crystal Thorn, Vanguard, and Gallant Squad, was sent to finally put the Mummy Curse to bed. Months prior, Shizu had made a deal with the Mummy Lord that they would clear out her Tomb if she removed her curse from them. Despite being very very late, the crypt was thankfully still protected by the traps and the bandits' progress had been slowed significantly. The Cadets entered the tomb and entered 'parlay' by which they meant screaming "Put your weapons down or we will kill you in five seconds" and counted down. This 'parlay' from the diplomacy squad upset Lnik. After a brief scuffle, a handful of bandits were dead, but a handful were captures and tied up.
They were then visited by the Mummy Lord who told them if they could complete the rest of the Tomb's Trials they would be able to return the Harpy's Wisdom to the Harpies, making them a sentient race once more. So they continued. Slowly they inched through the Tomb, clearing rooms and disarming traps, before finally making it to the last chamber. Inside they faced two Minotaurs. Gavin drank a Giant Strength Potion they had received earlier and went toe-to-toe with one while the others mostly dealt with the second. After a heavy slugfest they were victorious, defeating the Minotaurs and recovering the Harpy's Wisdom.
On the way back to the camp it was decided that the Cadets should hide the fact that they had recovered the Harpy's Wisdom however Lnik, already disgruntled at the lackluster display of 'diplomacy' he witnessed and unaware of their reasons for hiding this, was wholly unconvinced.
Back at Camp[]
Meanwhile back at camp, Ignis, Ardent Veil, and General Squad were left to guard the outposts. Only a few minor occurrences were noteworthy. Soon after the Tomb group left, another officer from the Cross-Allied Forces, Kei Noriaki, arrived at the Red Gate being escorted by an Inquisitor. He moved off to the CAF building to speak with Lieutenant Scott. other travelers passed through such as a younger boy in raggedy clothes and a full leather mask-helmet and apron, headed to Antioch for nails and other small things for his homestead. A Lizardfolk named Tirook who was under assault from several Cobras also passed through briefly. As well as one final man claiming to be taking Silks from Luxor to Edirne. However he traveled alone despite the harsh conditions of the desert- especially with the wildlife being as aggressive as it had been of late, and made note that he was circling wide around Antioch to avoid the Inquisition- claiming to not want to sit and do paperwork for hours just to grab food. Unfortunately for Vevina this man bore a striking resemblance to one of the men on the wanted posters, a man with scraggly white hair, an eye patch, and a thick bear- just with the beard shaved off. And she did not notice, so she simply let him through the outposts and sent him on his way, much to the annoyance of Lieutenant Scott and Intelligence Officer Noriaki.
Besides these occurrences, they spotted Worms in the distance on occasion and got into brief scuffles with the wildlife- most notably several raptors figured out they could jump the walls by climbing a rock just outside camp. Intelligence Officer Noriaki also went around speaking with several individuals, both Professor Carver and Albrecht, as well as many of the Cadets at their outposts. Ultimately he handed out invitations to a 'dinner' back at the Academy to Joseph and Speca.
Debrief Fiasco[]
As night fell the other Cadets finally returned from the Tomb. Once back inside they were assembled for a Debrief with Intelligence Officer Noriaki present. Prior to the Debrief Noriaki had witnessed Aida handling the prisoners, and pulled her aside to speak quickly, giving her an invite to his 'dinner'. Stark however was absent, and the responsibility of debriefing was eventually given to Lila instead. At first she claimed they had killed nobody, but she was corrected quickly by Lnik and Flora who mentioned that several had died. Noriaki yelled at them to make up their minds and that it was not a hard question to answer, and Lila told him she had been in the rear guard and did not see any deaths occur, and apologized for the mistake. The rest of the debrief was more of less standard, but the rocky start left a bad impression on the CAF. This impression only got worse when the debrief ended, as Noriaki was pulled aside by Lnik and told that Stark, Shizu, and Jixie had conspired to keep information hidden from Noriaki in the debrief.
He told him that they intentionally failed to mention that they went deeper into the Tomb, solved the Trials, and recovered the Harpy's Wisdom artifact. Noriaki commented that "We're all on the same side, are we not?" and Lnik agreed. This is when Lnik received an invitation of his own to this dinner. Noriaki then had the professors collect Stark by the CAF building, where he confronted him about this. Stark refuted that his squad would willfully withhold information like that, but Kei was not convinced. Kei was however impressed by Stark's diligence and professionalism, as well as all the commendations he had heard from others, and gave him an invitation to his 'dinner'.
With the Sand Golems summoned and night now fully upon the camp, injuries were treated to and everyone began to settle down. But the conspiracy was not done with yet. Professor Albrecht spoke with one of the captive Bandits, Frankie Fertile, and discovered he had worked with the Inquisition some under the table in the past, and had connections to various local groups. So Albrecht made an illusion of Frankie, making him appear as if he'd bit his own tongue off and bled to death. Then he helped move the 'body' out of the camp and let Frankie free, to act as an informant in the region. As soon as Frankie was out of sight however, Aida- who had been following- snuck around and impaled him in the back with several of her conjured blades, leaving his body to be buried in the desert. Albrecht and the others lied to the CAF, claiming Frankie bit his own tongue, but they were not buying it. They kept their suspicions to themselves however, for tonight...
Day Two[]
Security and Aftermath[]
On the morning of the second day, the Cadets were roused from their tents by the Headmaster with a megaphone. After waking and getting their breakfasts the Cadets were assembled in the main tent. While there, Intelligence Officer Noriaki performed a spot-check of the Cadets, examining their kit and uniforms. Once he was finished the Headmaster took them outside to the Red Outpost to explain the new bell system. The Sand Golems were to be left active all day and were instructed to ring one of two bells depending on the situation- one on the outside for when a traveler was at the gate, and one on the inside to warn of an attack. The Headmaster and Noriaki held a few drills through the rest of the morning to test their response times with this new system.
During the morning, Adventurers from the Adventure Guild arrived looking for two of their members who were lost the last time the Cadets were in Duat. These two were supposed to investigate the Brambles and it is believed they were turned to stone by the Cockatrices. Before they depart however Intelligence Officer Noriaki returns from his talks with the Inquisition with two of their members to perform a search of their tents for the missing artifact the Harpy's Wisdom. Shizuko and Gavin manage to successfully smuggle the artifact in a box into the Medical Tent where they hide it among the supplies. Lieutenant Scott however arrives in the tent and their attempts to keep her away from the back of the tent are painfully obvious. She eavesdrops on them after pretending to leave and overhears them talking about hiding a box from the CAF. She reports this to Noriaki shortly after and Rook volunteers his services to track the magical signature of the artifact, remembering the Ymra incident the last time the Cadets meddles with artifacts. Rook is able to track the box down and the Artifact is given to Noriaki. Following this, Rook is given an invitation to Noriaki's 'dinner'.
Dark Banners[]
Following all of this, Ignis and Vanguard are sent to the Bramble Forest to recover the Adventurers. Chipz is placed as lead of the operation. They move through the brambles carefully, taking down several cockatrices and noting many stone bodies some of which are missing limbs that have broken off over time. Eventually they approach the entrance of the caves and confront a Cyclops who was playing with the stone bodies inside. They are able to blind the Cyclops and defeat it, taking minimal injuries. Vanguard nearly retreats from the region following this, without pause of consultation, which angers Chipz who calls them back demanding to know if they intended to just abandon all the petrified people in the area that they could save. The Cadets spend the next twenty minutes gathering as many of the statues as they can, including the Adventurers and an Inquisitor, but they discover more in the Cyclops' lair. Inside there are two large tattered banners bearing the mark of the Dark Order. They recover one of the banners as well as another artifact- a Frost Staff that saps Rook's mana slowly and freezes the region around it. They take the injured and the spoils of the lair back to camp.
Fire and Plunder[]
Back at camp, a member of the Forty Thieves arrives on camel seeking audience with the Headmaster. Once he receives it, he tells the Headmaster that the Thieves believe an artifact the Cadets obtained last visit, the Diamond in the Rough, would work as a key to open the way to an ancient Pyramid. They believed that inside would be yet another artifact that would help the Thieves' cause greatly. Meanwhile Medical Staff examined all the petrified people that had been brought back, and learned that they would not have enough cockatrice blood to revive all of them. Headmaster gathered the Cadets and split them into two groups. Ardent Veil, General, and Gallant Squad were sent to recover the object from the Pyramid, while several members of Vanguard, Ignis, and Crystal Thorn were sent back to the Brambles to recover more Cockatrice bodies for blood.
On the way to the Pyramid the Cadets encountered the Lizardfolk who had stopped in camp the previous day, Tirook, fleeing from a Sand Worm. The Sand Worm thankfully could not cross the road due to the deep foundation stones, and Tirook was able to flee back to the Camp while the Cadets continued to the Pyramid. Along the way they were forced to pass the Sulfur Pits, infested foul smelling lands full of Fire Beetles. After dispatching the beetles, they moved into the sandstorm which fell away as the Diamond neared. Inside, they climbed the steps of the Pyramid, unlocked the barrier on the entryway, and stepped tentatively inside. The chambers within were seemingly devoid of traps, but they took their time regardless as they entered the final chamber. Inside was a Lamp set upon a pedestal. After taking the lamp, the Pyramid began to fill with sand and the Cadets fled out quickly and returned to Camp.
Meanwhile, the group sent to recover the blood and the second Dark Order banner, made good progress moving bodies back to Camp. However Lianda accidentally fired off a flare which began to spark and ignite the dry grass, worrying Rook and Esmae. Lianda then shouted "Forest fire!" and fired a flare directly into the brambles, instantly engulfing the entire Bramble Forest around them in a raging inferno and burning up the second Banner along with most of their clothes. They unanimously agreed to blame a fire breathing Cockatrice, then a frog because Esmae got confused.
Converged by Fire[]
With both groups back at camp, spoils in hand and clothes singed, the night began to wind down. Ryder entered the inferno to soak in the fires while the others watched. Lianda and Lieutenant Scott noticed someone up on the ridge though, observing from above. They raced up the steep sandy hill as quickly as they were able but when they arrived the man was gone, not even leaving footprints to follow. But to Lianda's vampire senses the air smelled distinctly like licorice, oddly. Back in the camp medical squad separated the petrified, those that could not be saved were moved to the morgue where Headmaster, Noriaki, and Speca were discussing the Lamp that was recovered from the Pyramid. They decided not to test to see if it held a genie and instead had Vevina wrap it tightly in webs and they hid it in one of the Morgue Compartments.
Beyond the camp's walls, activity stirred. Brought from far by the smoke and flames, two Sand Worms managed to crawl over the rocky barrier that previously kept them far from the camp and circled around the outer walls several times before leaving. They were not the only thing brought to the camp by the fires however. A commonly dressed man arrived at one of the outposts claiming water rights. As he was lead inside by Vevina he commented that Speca looked familiar because of her hair, but this was brushed off by Vevina. Once at the watering hole, he commented that the fire they started was quite large and that it had been 'dangerously close to our front door'. He alluded to a 'Haven' and paperwork issues, cluing Vevina in to the fact that he was from the Forty Thieves. When he was about to leave, he spotted Speca again and paused, which Vev took note of and she sent Speca away. So the man, claiming to 'be called Marq', asked if he could use their outhouses. When he left he passed by Lianda, who noticed he smelled like licorice and confronted him on this, questioning him on why he was on the ridge and more importantly to her why he had licorice on him. Vevina meanwhile talks to Speca, warning her of 'Marq' before sending her to meet him. The others left the area, and Speca and Marq had a lengthy conversation alone as the Sand Storm began. Despite the storm they continued talking for several more minutes, before Marq slipped out one of the Outposts and made his way back towards the Forty Thieves Haven.
Day Three[]
Revive and Return[]
On the morning of the third day, the revived individuals the Cadets recovered from the Bramble Forest and Cyclops Den finally wake up. They are confused and sore but otherwise seem to be in decent health. The Cadets learn that the Inquisitor had been frozen for two full years. Once the Cadets are assembled for the morning briefing, and with Professor Carver and Albrecht both back from their trip into Antioch, Intelligence Officer Noriaki informs them that a small group will be escorting the Inquisitor back to Antioch and speaking with a leader of the Inquisition. Before leaving Speca raises a concern that her appearance might be problematic, Noriaki responds with "You mean with what you are?" before moving away to speak with her quickly. She states that she is willing to come if he does not think she will be a liability for the mission, to which he responds that she is under the Cross-Allied Forces and under his protection, any attack against her would break a dozen treaties. On the way to the city the group is attacked by a couple raptors but easily fight them off.
The Inquisitors welcome back their comrade, and the Cadets are escorted into the throne room where the King is notably absent. Joseph has his chance to speak with the official, inquiring about their faith and other matters, before another soldier rushes in telling him that their men are in position and will soon be ready to squash the heretics. Following this Noriaki returns and they take their leave back to camp.
A Thief's Map[]
While the other Cadets are away Marq, the Forty Thieves member who spoke with Speca the previous night, returned in proper robes to the camp claiming to have an offer for the Professors. He was allowed inside and spoke with the Headmaster and Carver, telling them that the Forty Thieves had something to offer them, especially given they were aiding them with the artifact from the Pyramid. The Headmaster revealed that the CAF was aware of the artifact and it could not be given over, but that it at the least would remain in the Academy's hands and not the CAF or Inquisition. Marq found this acceptable, as keeping a 'Jinn of Old' out of their hands was vital. He then revealed that while the Academy had been away the Thieves had done some investigating into the old mine the Worm Queen had made her nest in. The company that used to operate it apparently went out of business because all their workers were eaten when the worms moved in, and the Thieves were able to recover an old map of the mine.
The remaining Cadets at camp were all assembled to go with Marq to recover the map and any other information the Thieves were willing to part with, due to the risk of a worm attacking and a smaller group being overwhelmed. So they headed out from the gate, strung out and much slower than Marq would have preferred. While waiting for the stragglers to catch up, a patrol of Inquisitors was spotted coming from the burnt Bramble Forest and they made a b line for the Cadets. Marq began to panic, before Vevina had him grab onto her back and she burrowed under the sand to hide them both just in time, though she had to partially resurface several times just out of the Inquisitors' sight for him to breath. After checking their passes, and a close call where one of the Inquisitors saw Vev's leg behind a tree, the Cadets were allowed to continue and the guards ran off into the desert chasing an illusion of Albrecht's.
Inside the Thieves' Hideout the Cadets were given the old map and allowed some time to discuss with the Thieves while Albrecht and Carver spoke to one of their leaders about the artifacts from the desert. The professors came up with a tentative plan to give the artifact to the Inquisition and for the Forty Thieves to ambush them on their way back to Antioch to claim the Harpy's Wisdom and use it to raise the Harpy race. Meanwhile back in the main chamber the Cadets learned of a possible weak spot on the larger Sand Worms, several pulsing boils of the sacks of their bodies that would make the worms recoil when struck. A reference to the fact that the nation used to be much more magically inclined before the Inquisition took over was also given because Lnik was complaining the worms couldn't be that intelligent unless magic was involved. With a copy of the map in hand, the Cadets returned to the Camp, but were spotted by a pair of Inquisitors.
Tremors[]
Back at the camp the Headmaster enlarged a copy of the map using Transmutation so the cadets could assemble and plan ahead. The Cadets eventually came up with a plan to test themselves against a smaller worm, hoping to learn how better to combat them. The initial plan was to bait a worm away from the hive and have two shields keep it's attention while they attacked it from behind. The rest of the cadets were made ready to reinforce however if things went bad, with a forward outpost established at the rocks with tents and medical on standby.
This plan fell apart almost instantly however when Rook fired his energy blast and it hit the ground. The vibrations from this alerted several worms on the edge of the Hive and they attacked the group which had to retreat behind the rocks. The rest of the Cadets joined them but the more they fought the more worms were attracted and the battle escalated dramatically, with roughly seven Land Worms and four or five Sand Worms making their way past the rocks and assaulting the cadets at various points. The Cadets were able to defeat the worms and eventually pulled far enough away from the Hive that no more joined, but they suffered heavy casualties- luckily there were no fatalities though. Lila's left arm was shattered after she tried to use the broken arm to shield a hit from a Worm. Both of Zack's arms were badly bruised with damage to his wrists. Rex had heavy damage to his arm, losing most of it but thankfully not the bones. Half of Vevina's back right leg was bitten off and she was exposed to second hand neurotoxin from Lnik because Rook carried both of them out of the battle. Ryder and Misty were able to heal each other with hellfire but several other cadets were mana drained and exhausted.
Dinner and Fire[]
Later in the night only a few smaller matters needed handled. The majority of the Cadets were injured and healing, with Vevina needing assistance from Stark and Zephy to breathe until Lnik's toxin wore off. A small group of Cadets that were still able bodied were sent with a couple Lizardfolk to clear the last of the Fire Beetles from their nests near the sulfur pits, both the Cadets just watched them die before clearing it themselves for some reason.
Back at camp, Noriaki brought Hannah, Speca, and Lnik to the dinner they had been invited to- most of the others were recovering or away at the time. While at the dinner they discussed what to do with the Harpy's Wisdom, debating what would happen with each option until they settled on simply keeping it as leverage for now so as not to upset the Inquisition or the other Cadets.
After the Cadets left, Noriaki commented that he needed a long bath and Scott said she did as well. So Noriaki said, "Shall we?" which flustered Scott. Which seemed to be the intent as Noriaki actually laughed for once telling her to calm down.
Day Four[]
Thieves and Rats[]
In the morning on the final day of the Duat Mission, two members of the Forty Thieves entered the camp to speak with the professors. Acting on Albrecht's warning, the Thieves vacated their Haven in the night, however they still had a single load of goods left to move to their temporary camp and could not do so in the daylight. After discussing briefly, Albrecht agreed to send a small group of Cadets to help them. Zackery, Narali, Mason, Gavin, and Aida went to assist the Thieves, with Albrecht invisible with them. At the Haven they established their cover story- the Thieves would pose as merchants from Luxor on their way to Edirne with silk and the Cadets would be escorting them past the Sulfur Pits so they were not eaten by Fire Beetles.
On the way to the camp, they encountered an Inquisition patrol. The Inquisitors insisted on searching each of the chests- thankfully there was a layer of silk over the illegal goods inside, and Albrecht was signaled by Aida in time. Albrecht made an illusion of a Sand Worm, giving the group a chance to flee without raising suspicion. The rest of the trip was uneventful, and the Cadets deposited the chests of supplies at the temporary camp before returning to their own.
Back at camp a group of Inquisitors lead by High Inquisitor Merius arrived to speak with Intelligence Officer Noriaki. Given all the recovered artifacts were found on Inquisition land, there was a legal obligation to hand them over to the Inquisitors. Kei bought the Academy time however by claiming that one of the artifacts needed to be prepared first as it was 'unruly'. Kei then left Joseph with the Inquisitor for a discussion the Cadet had requested. In this talk, Joseph inquired about the Inquisition's faith and explained that the Academy was an ill fit for him but he would not be allowed to leave. The Inquisitor offered Joseph a position in their own ranks, but this was not acted on before the Inquisitor left.
Into the Hive[]
After the Inquisition left, the Cadets were assembled for the excursion into the Worm Hive. After strategizing and reviewing the results of their previous battle, along with the map of the mine provided by the Forty Thieves, the Cadets moved out of the camp and up onto the rocks just past the ridge. Once there, they scaled the rocks and began firing off their powers to alert as many of the worms on the outskirts of the hive as possible. Due to the battle the previous day all that remained near the surface were larva- though each was larger than a full grown man still. They slaughtered the larva, and began their advance.
They moved through the quarry and into the Mines without incident. Once inside, they established a firing line and unloaded on the Larva within. The sounds of battle attracted attention behind them however, so they were forced to advance quickly deeper into the hive. They battled through several large corridors, clearing out several Land Worms and over two dozen more Larva. At the edge of a large open chasm, they battled a Sand Worm and other Worms and cleared a safe area to set up a forward camp. They laid out medical supplies and a tent, as well as barricades in front and behind so the location was secure. They also treated several injuries while resting.
After their short respite, the group advanced deeper into the final set of tunnels. They encountered more adult worms, hidden amongst colossal emerald pillars. Within the center of the enormous chamber, was the Queen Worm. Easily 50 feet tall or more, the Queen's sheer size made her a horrifying enemy, but thankfully she was also enclosed within a lowered valley. The Cadets unleashed their firepower on the Queen from above, but their arrows and crossbow bolts bounced off her hide. The sounds of battle attracted many more Sand Worms and Land Worms, who descended upon the Cadets and scattered their formations. Meanwhile the Professors tried to get some hits on the Queen and keep her distracted. She smashed her head against the altar, shattering it and sending several cadets running.
After she as agitated enough, the Queen found a gentler slope and managed to claw her way out of the valley and up onto the same level as the Cadets. The Cadets were already scattered fighting other Worms, and the situation was dire. Through the fight Cadets Joseph and Lnik were both eaten by worms but were thankfully freed before fatal harm was done. The Queen threw Albrecht and Ryder into the walls with a swing from her enormous spiked tail. But eventually after a very long and brutal slugfest the Queen fell, and the Hive went silent.
At Any Cost[]
The Cadets pulled back to the Forward Camp carrying one another, most having sustained serious injuries and mana tapped. Those who still had mana to give aided Medical in the healing of the most sever injuries as they went through several mana potions. To the side however a much more dangerous situation went critical. Rook's chassis was damaged in the fighting, and his Core had been ruptured. His Core was now producing as astronomical amount of mana at an exponentially increasing rate- Rook's Core was undergoing a Critical Meltdown.
The Cadets and professors tried to drain this excess mana as the air began to hum with the energy. Everyone's hair stood on end from how mana charged the environment quickly became, sparks arcing off Rook's chassis and crackling against the stone walls. Even the enormous mana pools of Carver and Albrecht, both drained near empty in the battle, swiftly filled. Everyone's mana pools were filled to the threat of overflowing and killing them. And Rook was only producing more and more at an ever more alarming pace.
A decission had to be made. If Rook shut down it might stop the meltdown but they would be unable to move him- and if it didn't they would all be stuck down there as he exploded. Or they could take him to the surface so he could try to expel as much mana as possible. They opted for the latter, and Carver began to lead Rook to the surface. As soon as they exited the mine however, they encountered the last of the Sand Worms. Five or six of them had been out hunting while the battle took place and were just returning. There was no more time.
Rook and Carver began to battle the Worms, quickly making their way up onto the cliffs of the quarry. Rook expelled all the mana he could in this fight, raising barrier after barrier, blasting the worms with lasers and shockwaves to stun them, Carver hammering against their chitin and hide with explosive fists. But it wasn't enough. Rook's core went Critical. He managed to hold in the blast for just a moment longer, repeating the words from Intelligence Officer Noriaki. "At any cost." As his fellow cadets exited the mines they saw the explosion far away. Despite the distance the magnitude of the mana explosion shook the ground and knocked the group from their feet.
Recovery And Betrayal[]
Jixie was the first up to the blast site, where she found a small green gem. The Mana Projector that once made up Rook's arm was all that remained of him. The others were quickly at her side, and Albrecht found Professor Carver collapsed and unconscious against a rock nearby that he had been thrown into by the explosion, cracking the rock down the middle. The Cadets returned to camp with the others, battered and injured and devastated by the loss.
The debrief was short, with only a handful of Cadets being stable enough to attend. While most of the Academy was being treated in the Medical Tent, Kei revealed his ultimatum. The Inquisition legally owned these artifacts, but they only knew of two of them and only had a description of the Wisdom. If the Cadets could come up with an alternative to appease the Inquisition and keep the Wisdom in their possession, he would allow it. But the Inquisition would be arriving in half an hour. Shizu offered her solution, which was accepted- she would move the memories of the Harpy's Wisdom into her own Mask, so they could give the Inquisition an empty artifact.
The Inquisition arrived, they were given the Frost Staff and the now empty Harpy's Wisdom, which they accepted. But deeper within the camp trouble brewed. Speca had seen the state of Duat, heard of it's plights and the increasing struggle the revolution was facing from Marq. And she had a plan to help them. She informed her squad that she intended to steal the Lamp and escape to the Forty Thieves, but the risk of the Inquisition blaming the Cadets was high. So they framed Speca for treason. Vevina dropped herself off the ceiling to break her own legs, and the Inquisitors who stormed the camp looking for an artifact were killed. Speca fled into the desert with the Lamp, and Albrecht informed the Academy that Speca had betrayed them all, assaulted her own squad, killed two Inquisitors, and fled with bandits. This cover story was relayed personally to the High Inquisitor as well.
