Who is Berion?[]
Berion Gelinnas is a High Elf paladin, who was reassigned to Ascension Academy as a professor at the start of Year Three. His focused school of magic is Abjuration, and his training in the Kings Guard was dedicated to fighting the Blackguard, and their minions, providing him in an array of protective spells. While still considered "young" for an Elf, Berion often shares what wisdom he does know whenever he thinks it's welcome.
Many were suspicious of Berion when he first arrived, but some Cadets have opened up to him with personal matters seeking his help. While their reasons for trusting him surely vary, Berion has shown a willingness to do anything for his students, and gladly steps between them and harm.
Over time Berion has started speaking about his time in Aldoria, regarding to his opinions of political affairs. Acknowledging the many struggles Aldoria faces, Berion is hoping to find a way to help his homeland find a new way towards progress. Some finer details of his past has been shared in varied conversations, where he has admitted to his rebellious youth, and even that he has served time in prison.

History[]
Berion served in the King's Guard as part of the frontline against the Blackguard, until a year before he joined Ascension. He admits that his being a professor is completely new to him, and he as been observing and trying to learn from the other staff, in how to act, and apply himself for the students. He claims to have respect towards Lorn Barnes, and Professor Albrecht, as they seem so confident while teaching.
When Lianda introduced herself to Berion, during the first week of year 3, they exchanged a lot of information regarding Elderbloom, Berion's brother, and Lianda herself. The exchange ended poorly, and was reported to Headmistress Quinn. Realizing he was in the wrong, he apologized during a following conversation where they both better explained themselves, and seemed to find respect in each other. Oddly Lianda challenged Berion to a duel. It took some time, but the duel was held. Lianda requested that Berion fight seriously, while she refused to use any of her Vampiric abilities. The fight was long, but in the end Berion was the victor. "Ye' who are denied peaceful earth, rise once more. Stand and be proud Lianda."
After what started as friendly bantering, which turned to light flirting, Berion and Madam Minerva, seem to be starting a romantic relation. They seem to keep fully professional in front of others, but when they believe they are alone, their way of speaking becomes more personal. Each have opened up about their personal history to each other, finding things they admire, but also somethings that concern the other. Regardless, this relation seems to be ongoing.
Upon their first meeting during the Cari town liberation mission, Berion and Finn were quick to butt heads each pushing for their own ways of handling the situation. This only became more clear once Finn was made a professor, Berion was rather open that he despised Finn, due to the man's willingness to sacrifice others in the name of victory. Following the Holiday Break Berion and Finn have had a few conversations to better understand the other, both agreeing to the understanding they each dislike the others approach, but each will be needed in the coming days. This agreement to be allies was often tested, especially during the search for Chipz, and Vevina Ciseris (after they attacked the Headmistress.), as Berion, and Finn competed to find the AWOL cadets first. During the stay at Fortune bay Berion found Risei Evo crying alone. She had discovered that there were cadets, and teachers a brewing plot to murder Finn. Risei told Berion of many of Finn's good qualities, and Berion provided what council he could. Being a servant of Sarenrae (A Goddess of Redemption) Berion swore to Risei to protect Finn from this plot, in the shared hope that Finn could be redeemed. Sadly this led to Finn's betrayal, and his eventual arrest.
After learning that Professor Vondanen, was possibly working on a cure for Elderbloom he began focusing on investigating Vondanen, and this possible treatment. He has been able to supply Professor Atticus Sky, with Lianda's final treatment, and Papers containing research of Elderbloom directly from Aldorian Libraries. Stuck Professor Sky asked Berion to send a sample of what they had been working with to the Aldorian Alchemists, as they may have resources, Berion and Sky lack, at the Academy. Berion continues to look for a way to save his brother.
Rex, Misty, and Morgan, summoned an elemental outside of supervision. Their plan was to have Misty fight the Elemental, until she tired, as a method to expend Misty's rage. This failed when Misty weakened, but the Elemental fought on, injuring Morgan. Deputy Headmistress Boyle, was speaking to Berion about how this was not the first failed attempt to find a method to help Misty, and it was clearly something that needed to be addressed. Berion volunteered, noting that Misty feeds off of the negative emotions around her, his own poor opinion of demons, would be a constant influence she would need to learn to tune out. He gave ideas of how he would challenge her temper, and assist Misty in gaining proper control. Deputy Boyle agreed, noting that she expects Berion to handle this professionally. Misty and Berion spoke at length, and each seemed to be fencing words, finding their space in their new "Partnership." Berion was honest in his opinion of demons, speaking of things he witnessed while in the Kings guard. Noting their deadline, Berion said "I believe you will fail, prove me wrong, child of hell." Misty seemed interested in their wager. After a few weeks of working with Misty Berion arranged with Professor Albrecht to provide Berion with complex illusion scrolls which were used during a training exercise. Misty was defeated by the illusions however, Berion released Misty before she had calmed from a Rage-State, and Misty attacked him. Berion did his best to calm Misty while fighting her off, while he was able to do so, both suffered injuries. After speaking to the Deputy, Berion took Misty's side, claiming that the he believes Misty can be trusted in active duty. Boyle has agreed to let Misty continue to be Part of Gallant squad, but on the terms that she and Berion must continue to work together, and should she ever harm a fellow cadet, Berion would be the one held responsible. Berion, and Misty have continued to train, and have formed a strange friendship. Despite how close the two may seem, Misty still, and will always sense Berion's hidden hatred for what she is.
Shown a Letter by Narali, from Sigurd Holt of Cari town, Berion learned that the local Dryad had been missing for some time. Traveling to Cari with Gallant and investigating, they learned that this Dryad was pursuing the Dark Order, and a book called the "Necronomicon". Wishing to follow this lead, Berion, Gallant squad, Sigurd, Vivi, Izanami, Samantha William Stallard, and Yuki Mori, were all present for this journey into Noira, and later a Freezing Cave. After battling, Brigands, Giant Spiders, and Powerful Undead, the team discovered that the Dark Order was present, and recovered a chest of Artifacts, however the Dryad, and the so called "Necronomicon" were nowhere to be found. Berion surprised by Izamami's knowledge of the Dark order, brought her back to the Academy to further investigate the strange girl, whom surprisingly was recruited by Headmistress Boyle. Some time later, it was shared to Berion that Izanami is able, and willing to use a darkness artifact in the form of a ring. After Izanami was tested by Professor Albrecht Xel Brunswick, the professors agreed the new cadet could be trusted, and that each would support her efforts.
Berion, Headmistress Boyle, and Professor Finn, have been investigating a strange red stone that had formed in the flooded caves just outside of the Academy's barrier. They discovered that this stone was a Rift slowly growing in power by draining the natural energies of the surrounding area. An Ent named "Treeam" arrived at the Academy, with the assistance of Morgan Foxglove (as a translator) they learned the End claimed to be sent by the Fae courts, to aid in containing this Darkness Rift, and healing the wilds around the school. Gladly cooperating, Treeam led a ritual with themselves, Morgan, and Berion, which seemed successful in sealing this rift, however it was warned that the "Old one" will continue to make more, and that this was just a way to by a little more time. Something must be done.
During their time in Fortune Bay, Berion was asked to lead a group of cadets along side Professor Odyss of GMA. Together this group was tasked in attempting to parley with a Captain Scarlet, and recover a collection of magical artifacts. Despite their best intentions, the CAF group was eventually led into a trap, and had to fight their way out. In the end Captain Scarlet was captured, and her direct followers killed.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Divine Smite - Berion manipulates either his existing sword, or summons additional blades. Normally used to either sweep a wide area, or sunder larger targets.
- Detect Evil - Berion uses magic to sense for otherworldly or supernatural beings, such as undead, fae, and demons. The learns of the exact number, and the approximate direction of those he detects.
- Protection from Evil - Berion recites prayers to protect the mind of either himself, or someone he can touch, improving their defense against mental attack, or mindcontrols.
- Purify Food and drink - Berion cleases poisons, or other toxins from a foodstuff.
- Protection from Poison - Berion pre-emptively provides imself with a strong resistance to poisons and toxins.
- Elemental Armor - Berion summons a full suit of plate armor made from divine light. It weighs almost nothing, boasting great defenses.
- Elemental Weapon - Berion summons forth a sword and shield from divine light.
- Shield Formation - Berion creates a formation of large shields.
- Divine Challenge - (Ultimate): Berion magically challenges a target to a duel, trapping both himself, and his target within. Whilst his strongest spell, it must be used wisely. Berion must be acting upon one of his oaths to cast. The challenge ends, either when one of the fighters fall, or one yeilds. Should Berion be defeated, he is at his foe's mercy.
