Melanie is a Dark Elf and the cousin of Barthall, though they treat each other as siblings and refer to each other as such. Together they both attend the Ascension Academy.
She gives off an aura of arrogance and is pretty brash about saying exactly what's on her mind - even if it's rude.
Lore[]
Melanie was born on the Anarta forest of Aldoria alongside Barthall and her mother. Since childhood she was raised with the objective of being the vessel of the deity Kiaransalee alongside many others but she seems to be the most capable one as she could endure the flames of this deity.
When Melanie started learning her fire she had a huge temper tantrum after unfortunate events and completely scorched a huge section of the Anarta forest and small town within called Petra, killing hundreds of Drow workers. The curious thing is that this wasn't a city of itself and some even recall to be built for her to destroy it.
Later on on the Underdark when her mother gave her an unknown liquid presumably related to Kiaransalee she loses control of herself and kills her best friend Annie.
History[]
She is convinced that she and her brother are stronger than the other students and is not afraid to express it by belittling them. She called Xana Fluffytail worthless except for being cute.[1]
Melanie was disciplined for speaking up and cursing against a teacher. Her punishment was to tell on her classmates and always beginning her sentences with say that Professor Vondanen is her favorite teacher. If she failed for 5 times she would face possible expulsion. She told on her classmates Chipz, Rook and Esmae who she had witnessed trespassing into areas where they were not supposed to visit. [2]
She helped provide blood for Victor Heinrich, a fellow student who is a vampire. Other students from Ignis Squad namely Speca and Chipz entered her room without permission and discovered it. Chipz made the mistake of confronting her about the blood right in front of the teachers, revealing that they had been sneaking in her room leading to them being reprimanded.[3]

In a practice duel versus Speca she lost control over her abilities and caused a magical explosion that wounded her opponent in the process. Remaining stoic for a while she later apologized. Ever since she has had lapses of difficulty controlling her powers heating the surrounds of her. She even had problems with increasing body temperature needing to get some help in the academy infirmary. She was treated by Professor Luna Silver and Irinarya who kept bringing her ice-packs in order to keep cool. [4]
She lost a duel against Hannah Hart who had prepared better by gathering Urplem's and crafting potions that made her resistant to Melanies magic.
The Teacher and the God[]
At the end of the first day of squad placements Professor Steele accompanied by Professor Lorelei Bliss take Melanie away to Bliss office to help her out, Steele ask her to believe in him and he extracts his amethyst with one of his memory fragments from where he was possessed and passes it to Mel to see it. In the memory Steele was on the beaches of Garen 22 years ago, and he saw there the Wraithborn; eyes of shining green and skin faded, cracked and chapped lips. Surrounded by them after their commander failed to early beheaded by an unknown beast, and then on by one they opened the mouths of his comrades and pushed themselves inside infesting skin and flesh. One tried to grab him but Steele managed to stab it but nonetheless the wraithborn was able to go inside of him whispering inside his head to kill them, feast and devour. Steele struggled but the creature was too deep inside and he started to question if he was himself or the Wratihborn. Ready to kill himself Steele takes a dagger and puts it into his throat but the creature wasn't on the same so it exited his body on fear of his life and Steel managed to kill it after. [5]
Melanie's Past
They come back to the present and Melanie tells him about a girl "Annie" that was her best friend back in the underdark and after her mom called her to train on the basement like always she instead stuck her with a weird liquid that burned and the last thing she remembers is that she was stabbing and tearing apart Annie then Petra made her burn everything down. Steele makes Mel open her mind so he could speak to the deity and after some struggle it comes out. Arrogant and cold she tried to diminish Steele but his amethyst is too strong, after telling it that he had hunted its kind of he is acknowledged by it he puts the first chain on it, he asks; Do you want to be free? and she answers I need the girl, Second chain is put on it: Desire. The deity tells that Mel is the chosen one for it and that she has been raised with that objective but the school keeps her on check even after the things she has done. Steele places the last chain: Fear. Taking out his gun he chants and aims at Mel heart, the deity tried to convince him to not shot her as it would kill Mel but Steele incantates the word Expose and shoots his amethyst the deity on Mel body storing it on a vial. After Mel wakes up Steele gives her the vial and tell her that now it would for her to decide what to do.
Steel tell she that he will make her strong enough so she won't take the deity again.
Last moments[]
Mel gets consumed by the god
After Pierce Carver goes to Melanie grove he founds her in solitude there, Mel tells Carver that she doesn't fit there. Carver tries to convince her but she takes the vial from Carvers hand and consumes it and her characteristic blue flames explode from her body in a violent manner. Carver tries to talk to her but she pushes him out of the grove and seals it leaving Carver without an way to know her whereabouts. Later on the Headmaster mentions to Briar that she tried to consume the deity but got consumed instead.

Trivia[]
- She appears to have a weakness for cute things.
- Her brother calls her "Mileen", but she dislikes it when he does and thinks it to be a stupid nickname.
- She values her brother Barthall higher than most other people but outwardly doesn't hesitate to tease him and point out any of his mistakes and weaknesses.
- She is apparently a "messy" person. Before being assigned a squad she slept in the Vanguard quarters rooms. During squad assignments Headmaster Kareeda accidentally slipped and said that she had kept her room so messy that they simply decided to let her stay there.
- Melanie likens her love interest Joseph to heroin where she knows he is bad for her but she can't get enough
