Maya Featherfoot was a female Hobbit who lived in Arilaand as a farmer during the Fourth Age of Auzera.

Maya lived in Leydford, and was one of the members of the original Leydford group. She survived the Siege of Leydford, and would escape with many others to Castle Adwick where she lived up until her death during The Battle of The Siege of Oakenbrook. Maya was a true Hobbit, and she loved the simple things in life the most: namely good food, drink, and pipeweed. She also loved good company, and over her life, the cheerful Hobbit made many wonderful friends who loved her and who she loved dearly. To that end, even though Maya was a peasant, she lived a life that was rich beyond comparison. Ultimately, Maya proved that the Empire could try and take everything from her, but they could never take away her happiness.

Backstory[]

Even though the Featherfoots were among the only Hobbits who lived in their Arilaand hometown, they were beloved by their fellow townsfolk; who were warmed by their friendliness and honesty in trade dealings. They owned a farm that flourished and produced enough food to feed and provide for their daughter Maya, who was still an infant at the time.

Life for the Featherfoots seemed good, though things took a turn for the worse as the effects of the Kingdom's decline became more apparent. As food became scarce, the Featherfoots sold what they could, but struggled to meet the demands of the townsfolk. Fewer friendly faces appeared in town over time, and business dealings became just that and nothing more. Some of the townsfolk even became resentful and suspicious that the hobbits might be hoarding the food to themselves. Around this time, the military had started to abandon the outlying towns, including their own, and the region grew increasingly dangerous; with the threat of bandits, and the restless townsfolk themselves. Maya’s parents were convinced to leave the town by her grandfather, who was visiting at the time; and who urged them to come to live at his farm where it was much safer. They planned to depart from their home within a few days and entrusted Maya with her grandfather, who made safe travels to the safer regions of Arilaand where his own home resided. Unfortunately, Maya’s family never arrived at her new home, and her heartbroken grandparents raised the orphaned hobbit-like she was one of their own; unable to tell her the truth until much later in life.

While growing up, Maya worked hard to help her grandparents around the farm, and sometimes at the market stall, they set up. The young hobbit learned a great deal about how to manage the small farm and deal with people. On some days she carried a hobbit-sized crate filled with bottled milk and lemonade on her back, scampered around town offering the townsfolk convenient drinks; and eventually started to deliver fresh produce in this way. The townsfolk grew fond of seeing her scurrying about, trying to make a living, and she earned the nickname of ‘The Little Wolf’ for her distinctly long and sharp canines; a name which she eventually played into when she started dawning on her grandfather’s wolf pelt hood. Maya lived peacefully like this for many years, and took over the work on the farm, as her grandparents were becoming too elderly to continue. Around the time Maya had become a young adult, her grandmother passed away from old age and illness, leaving behind a heartbroken husband and granddaughter. Now, Maya tends to the farm on her own, caring for her grandfather in his last remaining years. The lone hobbit has since developed a taste for the comforts of alcohol and fine pipe-weed; the former causing some pub-related incidents within her hometown; and while times are tough, she maintains a positive attitude, and an unusually cheerful demeanor for her grieving grandfather’s sake, for she is deeply thankful towards him for the wonderful life she was given.

Attributes[]

  • Major - Drunken Master: Maya is normally quite a peaceful person… However, when she gets a little too much alcohol in her system, the sweet hobbit girl transforms into a wild fighter; whose unpredictable movements make her as hard to hit as she is to avoid; and whose strikes suddenly have significantly more force behind them. This transformation will only last a short while until Maya falls asleep, and when she wakes up she will retain little to no memory of the event.
  • Minor - Chomp! Raised on the calcium rich dairy produced by the Featherfoot farm, Maya developed strong bones and has unusually long, sharp canines which look like small fangs. The little hobbit has a horrifyingly strong bite, and can even chew through rope with ease.
  • Minor - Climber: Small, light, and a good climber; Maya might be able to get to the hard to reach places that the larger folk may struggle with.

Detriments[]

  • Major - Panic Attacks: Maya has only really experienced a rather mundane, peaceful life on the farm; if she is suddenly put into an overwhelmingly stressful situation, she may suffer from a panic attack; causing her to have increased heart rate, difficulty breathing, an inability to focus and likely an inability to even stand. To make matters worse, Maya has a weakened heart due to familial stress, her small body, and from her own smoking and drinking habits; the stress these panic attacks have on her heart can lead to her experiencing a heart attack and in the worst case scenario, cardiac arrest.
  • Minor - Smoking Habit: Maya enjoys the comforts of pipe weed as much as any other hobbit; the taste and smell calm her down. However, if she is unable to smoke for several days she will experience symptoms of withdrawal; turning uncharacteristically irritable, shaking and having trouble focusing.
  • Minor - Thalassophobia: Maya has a fear of dark, murky or deep bodies of water, and especially the creatures that dwell within; she will be stressed and nervous when travelling anywhere by boat, and even more so if having to enter the water. If encountering/observing a hostile creature of the sea from a dry area, Maya will be at best disturbed, and experiencing a panic attack at worst. If encountering a hostile creature of the sea while submerged in water, Maya will undoubtedly panic; possibly fleeing or acting irrationally with the risk of harming herself or others in the process.
