The Local Police Department, also known as the LPD, is a VRChat roleplay community known notably for using small police officer avatars to entertain bystanders by loosely 'enforcing the law' within VRChat. The group has no connections to any real life police department, and is purely made to entertain the VRChat community.
History of the Local Police Department[]
The department was founded in early 2018 by Former Chief Sarma under the original Precinct 60 as the Loli Police Department. The group roleplays as police officers in order to create funny interactions with the VRChat community. They also try to fight against harassment in any shape or form. It is the forefront of justice in the virtual realms of VRChat.
On November 17 of 2019, Sarma resigned as LPD chief and decided to close his Discord server. Since then Hroi, RocketInaPocket, Wolta, Nathanimall and Tide rebuilt the community under the leadership of then Chief of Police Rickity, reforming it as Precinct 18 on November 18th, 2019, keeping the original name. The community stuck together and rebuilt, and in early 2020 Hroi was elected in as the third Chief of the LPD, supported by Deputy Chiefs DrCheesebuger and TheGamingExite, and later on RookieRanger. On March 7th, 2021 Hroi stepped down as Chief of Police, and Molls was elected in as the fourth Chief of Police by the Staff Team; DerpiCat and Notshane were brought on as new Deputy Chiefs.
The LPD saw heightened growth and experiences under the leadership of Molls. In March of 2022, Chief Molls stepped down from the position after about a year of service. Nightwisp was chosen as an Interim Chief of Police until a formal election for the fifth Chief was held, however he also stepped down due to a sudden shift of responsibilities and he ultimately returned to his rank of Captain. DerpiCat and Notshane continued leading the LPD until the next Chief election, which resulted in the selection of Karet as the LPD's fifth Chief of Police, as well as new deputy chief TheFoxyDemon, who joined DerpiCat and returned and replaced Notshane. After time, DerpiCat stood down & eventually Nightwisp took up the position of Deputy Chief. Derpi later returned as a Captain.
Through 2023 the LPD continued to see growth, and not only explored new opportunities but created new experiences for the LPD and VRChat community to enjoy. On April 7th of 2024, Karet and Nightwisp stepped down from their positions as the Chief of Police, and Deputy Chief. In addition, TheFoxyDemon stepped down to a Captain position to better focus on the teams under her leadership. With these changes of command, Jura was elected in as the LPD's fifth Chief of Police. Both DerpiCat and De-Mez were appointed in as his Deputy Chiefs to help bring the community forward into a new generation of leadership. In June of 2024, the LPD rebranded from the Loli Police Department to Local Police Department.
Today, the community still continues on it's mission as law enforcement entertainment for the VRChat community, and resides in its official Discord server. Officers follow a strict ruleset called "The Handbook". The Handbook informs officers about how to behave as an official LPD police officer.
Leading officers of the LPD community are called "White Shirts" due to their use of avatars with a white shirt as opposed to a standard blue jacket. They are usually in charge of the LPD's teams and maintain their operations.

Legacy[]
Although the LPD was initially founded to protect Lolis against lewders, it quickly developed into a full-fledged VRChat police force. Today, the LPD is promoting a self-image of comedic interaction under the guise of "protecting the security of VRChat." This group is mainly operating for entertainment. Though, if the need arises, LPD officers are known to help users.
The LPD hosts a variety of different events for the community. They can range fromcarrying out various sting operations to civic services and community service, especially for people who are new to VRChat, or simply patrolling around the VRChat community and interacting with the public. In January of 2021, they began a short series on their YouTube channel, called LPD Files. Khangaluwu is in charge of filming the series. The first episode was released on February 14, but after a few months it was taken down due to Copyrighted music. In May of the same year, they re-released it with a whole custom soundtrack.
LPD Avatars[]
The LPD has used many avatars over the years, with the Mikos being the most prominent. The brief history of the LPD avatars can be found a separate page, The history of the LPD Avatars.
Standard Patrol: These are the avatars most recognize the LPD for; these avatars are worn by all officers of the LPD. They consist of a blue shirt with a silver badge, silver pins on the collars, and the LPD patch on both arms. Sergeants & Staff Sergeants utilize the same uniform with the ability to display silver rank insignia. LPD Staff members, (Lieutenant+), display a white shirt in place of a blue one, along with a gold badge, gold pins on the collars, and gold rank insignia. Although mikos are what the LPD has mostly used, other base models have been used as well such as the Ukon and Kemono Friends MMD base; Community created avatars tend to utilize Booth models as well.
Specially Equipped Patrol Models: Specially equipped models are standard patrol models that conform to the look of standard models outlined above, but are equipped with an additional piece to add additional roleplay abilities out on the field. The most prominent of these additions are Patrol Rifles that may be utilized by Senior Officers and higher.
Vehicles: There are several cars and trucks used in the LPD fleet, the most prominent of these being patrol vehicles for the patrol division. Other vehicles include Ambulances, or specially equipped vehicles for SLRT.
SLRT Operators: The Special Local Response Team, (SLRT), is the SWAT/ESU of the LPD. They use more gear and equipment compared to the other avatar types. Only specially trained LPD personnel are allowed these avatars, and wear full black to denote their branch. They bring bulletproof vests, carbines, various grenades, and other tactical equipment to the field, and are divided by various roles that SLRT operators will use on the field.
Local Medical Technician: Much like the SLRT, LMT avatars are only issued to trained personnel, with a main focus on healing others. These avatars are equipped with many tools to treat wounded officers and civilians alike.
Corrections Uniforms: With the introduction of the prison, a need for officers to maintain the prison is a role filled by these avatars. Although training is not as extensive as the other branches, these avatars use less than lethal weapons to maintain the prison, with a brown jacket instead of a blue one.
Dress Uniforms: These avatars are standard black dress uniforms, and are much more clean and tidy. They are heavily organized for use in larger instances, this due in large part to other avatars being more performance demanding. These avatars are used during briefings and large gatherings.
Custom Avatars: These are avatars not created by the LPD Development Team, and are not official avatars - rather personal models created by LPD Officers for their own use in the community. They may contain differing avatar bases than the official avatars, however have the same general use cases as official avatars listed above. These avatars adhere to a no-nonsense guideline set out to insure the quality of LPD avatars.
Specialty Avatars: In the history of the LPD, several avatars have been used despite not fitting into the mainline categories, these avatars are either limited time; as seen with the anniversary 3rd Gen LPD 1.0 avatars and the sheriff uniforms; a role specific avatar, i.e. with the range-master and bait avatars (old and new), where one avatar is needed to fulfill that role; or a prop avatar used in LPD media such as the LBI detective (as seen in LPD VRChat Stories EP:1).
Social Media Content[]
The LPD has two social media pages. On their Twitter profile you will find up to date information and entertaining pictures and videos made by the Social Media Team, and their YouTube Channel was recently revived with new content. The team works under the leadership of Arkanium, and Sukadia.
The group historically produced an online comedy-documentary called LPD: VRChat Stories, and frequently adds more entertainment on YouTube and Twitter. They also created a new short Documentary Series for the group called "LPD Files." Currently, the Media Production team works on short, satirical clips dubbed "Instructional Tapes", which put a spin on both common occurrences & jokes within the community, along with highlighting the actions of it's protagonist 'Becky'.
LPD Files[]
After the nuke, Khangaluwu began work on the new series for the LPD, called LPD Files. This follows the story of a new recruit, named Marney, and their adventures through the metaverse of VRChat and explore the story of the Love Gang, the main antagonist of the story. As of October 2021, they have released two episodes so far, with a 3rd episode in the works. Unfortunately, due to real life circumstances, Khangaluwu stepped down to the rank of Adviser on January 29th, but then retired fully shortly after. Since then, no new info has came out about Episode 3, and the future of LPD Files.
