Who is Kareeda Akiyama?

Kareeda Akiyama is the Headmaster at the Ascension Academy. He is one of the founders of the school who started it after the Dark War as a way to fight against supernatural forces and as a countermeasure to prevent disasters related to the supernatural.

He is assisted in the daily management of the Academy by Madame Minerva, and he delegates many other duties to various other members of the faculty.

History and Lore

Kareeda Akiyama is a feytouched individual 'born from a tree'- though like all things fey he is a trickster and this part may have been a joke or lie. Akiyama served during the Dark War from 1820 to 1855, battling alongside the other races and powerful beings of the world to prevent the Darkness from wiping out all life. He worked alongside his wife, and after the Battle of Moontide Pass she was able to seal the Darkness inside a series of Demiplanes that became it's prison.

A short time after the Dark War, the Cross-Allied Forces was founded to unify the races of the world should they be needed to battle another threat like the Darkness. During this time, the Akiyama's adopted an Aasimar girl named Uriel.

In 1865, Kareeda Akiyama founded Ascension Academy on top of a mine rich in Attunement Crystals, the largest of which was used to power a large domed Barrier around the school. He established his Sacred Grove in the same location but in the Feywild, to prevent anything from circumventing the Barrier to infiltrate the school, and the entrance to the Darkness' Demiplane prison was secured deep under the academy.

Akiyama has continued to teach at Ascension Academy for nearly three hundred years up to the current date in Ascension Roleplay. He is known both by the student body and the Academy faculty as a well meaning but tricksy man, with a quick wit and a tongue like a whip- to his benefit and detriment as his quick jabs are hurtful at times as often as they are humorous. He currently holds the Demiplane Prison under his control, but he is actively looking for a potential candidate skilled enough in Conjuration, student or teacher, that he may pass the Demiplanes onto should he perish.

Trivia

• Being the founder of the school he's also one of the main map makers, technically making him the founder out-of-character as well.
• He chose his own name, Kareeda, which means "Dead Branch" in Druidic, as he was born from a plant in a cemetery.
  • His last name "Akiyama" means "Autumn Mountain" when translated as well.
• He once participated in a truth or dare with the students but clearly stated that he would not do anything that could be considered improper. He was dared to hug a tree and offered a wheelchair ride to Chipz.
• On the "Follow Orders" lesson, Kareeda secretly told Hannah the name of his adoptive mother, the one that raised him after he was found.
• Kareeda's Grove in the Feywild grows over time like a tree would, giving him and his daughter more space to work with as the years pass.

Henrietta the Spriggan

He is able to summon a magical being known as a "Spriggan" which he can command to follow him, guard or act as a sentry. The creature is portrayed by Veinhelm.

The creature was summoned and used during a sneaking practice where the students had to pass by it undetected. Spriggans are simple creatures that react to threatening movement or loud noises rather than thinking about a situation too deeply.
