Synopsis[]

The world of Eden was once a vibrant and prosperous world filled with Magic and wonder. However, that time has long passed. 300 years ago, the Calamity sucked the land of Eden of all Mana, and the only survivors were those who were aboard the life-preserving moving cities. Now, these behemoth metropolises ride out the apocalypse, living day to day in the hopes that one day Eden can be saved. Until that day, the Wardens, an elite group of defenders, protect these cities from the magical beast that roam the desolate lands of Eden. It is anyone's guess if the Wardens will be able to hold the tide of magical beast and keep the remnants of sentient life alive long enough for Eden to be recovered or if the magical beast and their Calamity class pack leaders will destroy the last people of Eden, and the world will truly become lost.

Lore[]

It has been over 200 years since the last sentient races gave up their futile attempts to retake the land after the Calamity left a desolate waste of the once vibrant planet of Eden. Now, the people of this world survive in their massive city-state structures that move across the land protected by magic barriers. They roam the waste of the world, gathering up any resources they can to continue to sustain the lives of the populations that call these cities home. Exactly how many of these massive domed structures still roam the ruined planet is unknown. However, the ones in close proximity to each other still communicate trade and assist one another in dealing with the dangers of this desolate world.

The cities remain mostly self-sufficient, each having specialities that they trade with one another and allowing commerce to continue to thrive long after the typical trade lines of days gone became obsolete. However, the nature of the structures requires a constant supply of magical ores to be turned into fuel for the barrier and city. Their massive Magus engines being the only way the city stays protected from the harshness of the outside world.

The desolate world left by the calamity has been overrun by powerful magical beast that often destroy anything they come across, even each other. Were it not for the creation of specialized forces and the invention of the Magus Engine, which allows the cities to stay away from larger herds by moving out of the way, the sentient races of the world would have died out long ago. The focus of this RP is around the Academy City of Reinhold. The city specialized in creating talented individuals at the many schools within to teach things that can be taught nowhere else. It is one of 3 cities of this type in the local region and often makes connections with other cities, trading the service of talented people for much-needed supplies. Given that talented people are always in short supply, the trade has always favored the Academy Cities. As such, they have become very wealthy compared to many other cities.

Reinhold Crest

Crest of the city of Reinhold.

The Academy that the story will focus on is the Warden Candidate Academy of Reinhold or WCA. The Magus Warden Corps are the front line defenses against the forces outside the cities and are responsible for stopping threats before the cities personal defense armies must muster forces to protect the city proper. There have been several cases where the Warden forces have fallen in a city, and the army was unable to hold back, leaving the city to be destroyed by the roaming monster packs. Therefore, the training of highly skilled Wardens is an important job and a position of honor for those who succeed in passing the program.

The Players will become Warden Candidates coming out of their primary schoolings and choosing this specialization. They either came from this city, or one of the other cities in the region by armored caravan travel or during a city connect for trade and immigration. For one reason or another, these people have decided to take out the task of becoming Wardens to protect the people of the cities and will be learning the basics of Warden work, creating their personalized defense weapons, competing in training exams, and participating in active field exercises to find out if they have what it takes to hold the mantle of a Magus Warden.

Magic in this World[]

Due to the destruction of much of the world, the mana content in this world is lower than it should be. It exists mostly now in underground deposits in the form of ores, which act as the lifeblood of the Magus Engines and the cores of the small foci that are present in most magitech that exists. They are also used directly in the weapons of Wardens who have the privilege of being able to create a personalized focus, which, due to their rareness, is a rare opportunity for anyone. Another side effect of the end of the world is the overabundance of those who have magic. When the calamity took place, those with magic survived the easiest and were able to find safety first among the fortress cities. Due to this, the later generations experienced a much higher rate of having magic. Thus, finding someone without the natural ability to cast some level of magic is extremely rare. However, due to the desolate state of the world and the natural mana in the world being lower the number of people who can cast without a focus is 1 in a million. There simply is not enough mana to replenish them without some resource to aid. This is where the new age magi craft has come up with new innovations in creating focuses that allow for greater mana efficiency storage and gathering.

Technology in this World[]

Due to the decrease in mana usability and the requirement of crystals to keep cities Magus Engine running the populous of the cities had to turn to other means of innovation taking the technologies of many different races to create a new level of technology the world before had not seen before. Gun Powder and Firearms became more popular for personal defense and for standing armies and vehicles that used fuel other than magic became used for transports and cargo transfers that became the back bone of logistics for the cities. Communications also had to develop in a way in which to allow for more long distance communications. With the discovery of radio and the mass marking of devices for the playing music many technologies such a telephones and personal radios became wildly popular. The most recent advancement is the creation a personal device for entertainment purposes that seeks to take the large moving pictures from the big screen theaters to a home. The inventor is calling the device a television. (The world is around the 1920s-1930s technology wise)

A.R.M.S[]

The Assault Raiment Magical Support or A.R.M.S. are devices that combine a personalized weapon with a personalized focus to create a unique weapon that will become a Warden's best friend and their tool for protecting their assigned city. The first things a Warden Candidate must decide upon arriving to their Academy is their Team position and Focus Properties. Both of these choices help them decide how their ARMS will be constructed which will also be competed in their first few weeks in the academy. The final decision they will make is what their personalized weapon will be which is the actual form their ARMS will be shaped in. The combination of Focus and Weapon are a unique staple reserved for the Wardens who protect the cities so careful consideration should be taken in creating their lifelong partners.

Magical Beasts[]

These creatures are the main populous of the Wastelands of Eden. They come in many shapes and sizes and often move in large herds or packs. There are some stories that claim there are pack leaders or Alpha’s that have some level of sentience though these stories are mostly dismissed as tales. The larger Magical Beast can sometimes drop the crystalized mana in their core that can be refined into a focus in a similar way that Pure Mana Crystals can. Magical beasts are rated in tiers.

Types of Focus[]

There are 3 major types of Foci, Focus Cells, Casting Focus, and Design Focus. Focus cells are usually much smaller crystals using the internal mana to power small machines and power tools. Casting Foci are a focus that allows the user to actively cast magical spells. The Foci are large and specialized for specific elements. Their usefulness and rareness mean they are one of the most expensive pieces of equipment in society. Design Foci are created specifically for a purpose. Similarly to Focus Cells they do not often have the means to cast magic, however their larger quantity of mana allows them to be used in large devices and engines to create more powerful magitech machines.

Dirty Mana[]

A magical byproduct of Magitech equipment, especially the massive Magus Engines that runs the large cities. This toxic substance can cause mana poisoning that is akin to a radiation that can have lasting damage to one’s body and with long exposure leading to a painful death. It is often ejected out into the waste so as not to pollute the cities that create them.

Alliances & Cities[]

Industrial Core Coalition[]

The ICC led by the Industrial city of Fortis is the alliance between the massive industry monster and all the smaller cities that orbit its migration path. Is at constant conflict with the Ryden League. Fortis, Aranheim, Blocsdale, and Douglas are a few of the cities that are part of the ICC.

Ryden League[]

A marauder-like collection of cities led by the City of Ryden. This group cannibalizes other cities to make their own way in the waster of Eden is at constant conflict with the ICC. Ryden, Greedon, and Bethella falls are a few of the cities that are part of the Ryden League.

Azalea Accord[]

A group of medium size cities that all declare protection over each other and ultimate neutrality in conflicts openly trade with all other alliances including the Ryden League. Does not have a main City but the Fey city of Sylph is the most prominent. Sylph and Ordvine are a few of the cities that are part of the Azalea Accord.

Ash Union[]

A collection of like minded cities that conduct research and use the leaps they make in their studies to protect themselves from both ICC and League interloping. Ashborne and Primortia are a few of the cities that are part of the Ash Union.

Maxim Agreement[]

The agreement between all Academy Cities to protect and produce the finest minds Eden has to offer. Not a real Alliance like others and has no leader, but Reinhold is the most prominent member of the agreement. Reinhold, Argus, Edmund, Lindell, Runewald, and Vivenne are a few of the cities that are part of the Maxim Agreement.

Free-Cities[]

All cities not in an active alliance or agreement are Free Cities. Cladwood, Thantell, Pseuphis, and Whitewillow are free cities.

Hadrian List[]

The Hadrian list contains all cities that experience Shield Fall or have been lost through other means, its is kept in all Mobile Cities and is how the denizens of Eden track what has been lost. Shalmir, Nale, R'kyve, Braidon, Indro-Town H-31, and Vanderhall have all fallen.
