Introduction[]

This page exists to document the various locations visited during Ascension Academy RP. Many locations do not have enough information to warrant an entire page of their own, so this page exists.

You can view a full HD world map, drawn in-character by Lnik the Erie Drake, linked here. This map is not 100% accurate in all it's details.

Camps[]

Camp Duat[]

AA AbaguaCamp

Camp Duat Wall.

Camp Duat is a forward camp located in the Duat Desert near the city of Abagua on a plot of land given to the Cross-Allied Forces by the Inquisition, and is the location of the Duat Desert Mission. Initially on arrival the camp's water supply was poisoned and had to be purified by the students with Transmutation Magic and salt retrieved from the salt mines nearby, a process they had to repeat every morning due to the supply being poisoned up stream. Camp Duat is a perilous and still untamed location, with giant Worms hunting in the desert nearby, the salt mine cliffs that are swarming with harpies which regularly make excursions to the camp itself, and various ruins guarded by mummies. While clearing out a tomb near the camp one of the new General Squad members, Naitya, was slain due to the Mummy Lord's curse.

Some good did come from the mission to Duat however. Ryder was able to secure an alliance between the local Giants and Hobgoblins. The Students were also able to secure relations with the nearby Lizardfolk by clearing their fishing caves of Ogres and Raptors, despite serious injuries being incurred. On the last day before departing, the Students bonds with the 'terrorist' group known as the 40 Thieves were gratified, in exchange for sheltering one of their own as well as Chipz saving Tick Tock's life in the Sewers under Abagua, the 40 Thieves gifted the Mummy Jar they had taken from the Inquisition so the Academy would be able to remove the Mummy Rot curse that afflicted several of the students.

At the end of the Second Year, the Cadets returned to Duat finally handle the Sand Worm and Mummy Lord issues. While there the Cadets had their first real extensive interaction with officers of the Cross-Allied Forces, specifically with Lieutenant Scott and Intelligence Officer Noriaki. Between facing the threats of bandits, sand worms, and fire beetles in the region and juggling the politics on the CAF and Inquisition relations, the Cadets had a difficult time during this mission. One of the first issues settled in Duat was the Mummy Lord. Shizu was sent with a group of Cadets to the Harpy Mummy Lord's Tomb to clear it of bandits which they managed handily, even taking a few captives. However they decided to continue into the Tomb when offered by the Harpy Lord, clearing rooms and deactivating traps and eventually facing down two Minotaurs. Their prize was an ancient artifact, the Harpy's Wisdom, which was said to contain the intelligence of the Harpy race and would allow them to regain sentience.

The Cadets decided to hide this artifact from the CAF, but it was eventually discovered and taken into their custody. This began a slow back and forth between the CAF and Cadets where the CAF was legally obligated to return to artifact to the Inquisition and the Cadets tried to convince Noriaki to give it to the Harpies instead. Amidst all of this, the Inquisition learned of two artifacts, with only vague descriptions, pressuring Noriaki to hand them over even more. Meanwhile some of the other Cadets were led to the Forty Thieves Den by Marq and another, where they were given old maps of the Mines the Sand Worms had made their hive.

After an excursion originally meant to be a test that turned into a full blown battle against half a dozen or more Sand Worms, and with the Map recovered by the Forty Thieves, the Cadets began planning a full blown assault on the Hive. After deliberation they settled on a plan, and on the final day of the mission moved to execute it. They drew out many of the smaller worms by firing guns while hiding high on the rocks so they could not reach them. Then they advanced into the tunnels, gunning down dozens of larva with a firing line. As they battled deeper into the Hive however the worms became older and larger, with the cadets facing several full grown worms in the cramped tunnels.

Finally they made their way into the last chamber, and in the center was the Worm Queen. She was easily over one hundred feet tall let alone head-to-tail length, and was able to smash through stone and the ruined structures of the mine with ease to assail the Cadets. The battle was lengthy and drawn out, but eventually after attacking her sides and battling off dozens of fully grown worms, the Cadets defeated her. But the victory was earned with blood and sever damage. Back at the camp the Cadets came up with a plan to appease the Inquisition and return sentience to the harpies, which Noriaki accepted.

Towns[]

Cari[]

Camp cari 1

Camp Cari Tents.

Cari Town is the location of the first combat mission undertaken by the students of Ascension Academy. The camp sits in a forest near Noria, on an island south west of the Academy, above a large crypt guarded by the spirit Imera Lux, and there is a dryad grove nearby. The students were deployed to the Camp initially to recover four Keystone fragments to prevent them from falling into dangerous hands. This mission was only partially successful as one of the Keystones was exchanged for Chipz' life and the other was drained to resurrect a Dryad. The camp was renamed to Camp Cari in honor of Cari Cuddlefish, the only casualty during the mission.

Thegrovecari'

The students assembled to pay respects to Cari Cuddlefish in the Grove.

The students later revisited the camp, which had been redubbed 'Fort Cari' in their second year at the Academy. Since their first mission the site has been built up greatly, with stone walls, gatehouses and towers, many houses, a farm, medical building, and a tavern. The Dryad now resides within the town sporadically while he works to cleans his Grove. In the center of the town in a stone statue and fountain of Cari in a mermaid form, with water pouring from her hands. A touching, if bittersweet, tribute to the fallen student.

The location was expanded greatly when the Cadets returned in Year 2, evolving over the course of several visits over the year from a small camp, to a small hamlet, into a decent sized town following the Collapse of Noria in the aftermath of the Root of the Problem mission.

Concordia[]

ConcordiaWorldView

Concordia from a bird's-eye view.

Concordia is a city in the south of Valendor on the east coast at the end of the inlet where Ascension Academy sits. The city is large and prosperous, with winding streets, bustling businesses, and a large temple in the center. It also houses a contingent of the Cross-Allied Forces. The students were brought to Concordia at the beginning of Year Two so that the students who lead the effort to open the Barrier around the Darkness' Prison could be interrogated by officers of the CAF. The city is practically under the control of the faith of Ymra, lead by the priestess Yashiro.

In Year Two the students were summoned to Concordia by the emergency alarms, the dome lighting the sky red as they were assembled. The city was under siege, the city guard dispatched or lured away from the heart of the city which was rapidly overrun by Twig and Thorn Blights. The students pushed from the Docks through the streets, recovering wounded and taking them to the Church at the peak of the city to be tended to. They then spent the whole day slowly securing the city street by street, clearing buildings and recovering wounded. Near the end of the battle giant beasts appeared and had to be dealt with by the teachers.

Esperia[]

Esperia MAP

Esperia on the Map.

Esperia is an island city known for its wide usage of Constructs, especially in their security force. In exchange for Ascension Academy supplying the city with Attunement Crystals, Esperia provides Keystones for the school. The Students of Ascension Academy were sent to Esperia on a mission early in their first year to secure the school's funding and to track down shark poachers that had been de-finning sharks in the waters near the academy and tossing the bodies back.

While on this mission the students managed to not only handle the poachers, but they went above and beyond. They uncovered the Steward's plot to control the Queen using Chrisma Glasses and exposed him. On top of this it seems the Queen took a romantic interest Augusta. Conveniently after this the school's funding was increased dramatically and Augusta was encouraged by the Headmaster to maintain this relationship. Unfortunately Speca's rampant drinking at the inn cost them a large portion of that funding.

Antioch[]

Abagua MAP

Abagua on the Map.

Antioch is a port city in the Duat Desert in the South East lands governed by King Ali. The city is heavily militarized, serving as a stronghold for the zealous Inquisition , and conditions are incredibly poor for any non-humans. Upon entering the city individuals are required to register with the Inquisition, filling out forms about their race and magic. Any non-humans are forced to wear a wristband containing Chromatic Glass so that while in the city they are unable to use their abilities. Underneath the city a black market is established in the sewers, frequented by members of the 'terrorist cell' the 40 Thieves.

Fallbrook[]

FallbrookMerchantArea

The Human District in Fallbrook

Fallbrook is a settlement located in North Valendor, lying in between the Dark Lands and the United Sanctuary, and divided into four districts. It was previously led by Joshua Kane, ruling over humans, vampires, and lycans in unity. However, his death left the heir to be claimed by one of his three sons: His oldest, a turned vampire, his middle, a turned werewolf, and his youngest, a human. The three races segregated themselves and each supported a brother. The Cross-Allied Forces deployed officers to mediate the conflict but relinquished the mission to Ascension Academy.

Other[]

Spirit Forest[]

Spirit Forest 3

The Cabins in the Spirit Forest.

During Spirit Week, the students and teachers of Ascension took a camping trip to the Spirit Forest to avoid the rampaging spirits on the Academy grounds. The location was intended to be safe, or at the very least was implied to be to the students, however this was very much not the case as spirit activity in the area was high. Coupled with the perpetual fog and a roaming lycan whose territory the campgrounds were dangerously close to, the trip proved to be far more stressful and potentially dangerous to everyone.

Spirit Forest 2

The Gallows, located in the woods.

While at the camp the students were forced to bargain with a spirit to return it's books to it's grave which lead to exploration parties being sent out into the dark to contend with the various hostile and dubiously ambivalent spirits that stalked the woods, including several that could mimic voices and the appearances of students by drawing on the memories of their classmates, a little girl who could summon fog and illusions of undead, and a strange mildly helpful figure in a plague doctor's garb. Eventually the students were able to settle the spirits enough to spend a very restless and anxious night in the woods- after a large scuffle anyway. Several of the spirits even attempted to incite romance between Cari and Chipz by mimicking romantic music and the phrase 'f*cking Cari!' repeatedly for some reason.

Beach Resort[]

Beach Island 6

A view of the Beach Island from atop 'P**** Rock'.

The Beach Resort Island is a location owned by Esperia that the Academy is allowed to use for getaways for the teachers and students as part of the city's alliance with the Academy. The Island is largely sandy with only a few flat stretches where grass grows, and it is dotted with palm trees all the way up the layered rocky hill. Under the island a network of caves connects to some older Dwarven Ruins. There is also a large rock on the island that the students gave an, interesting, name to. The students climbed the large rock and dove off of it into the waters, like a natural diving board.

Matka Isle[]

Mothersleafside

A view of Matka Isle from the sky.

Matka Isle is a small island in the North owned by an ex-adventurer where he stays with his wife and son, and another couple. The isle is cold and thickly wooded, and home to a sizable population of Polar Bears and Yeti. The students of Ascension were allowed to go to the island to pick Mother's Leaf to cure the Mummy Rot disease and take as much ore as they could gather in exchange for killing as many Yeti as they could in the process. While in the caves where the plant and Yeti were they ended up having to escort the son, who had snuck away to follow them filled with grand vision of being an adventurer like his father. Fortunately they were successful on all three fronts and left the isle with barely a scratch between them. The name of the Isle translates to 'Mother'.

Faust[]

Gates of Faust MAP

The Gates of Faust on the Map.

The Cliffs of Faust are neutral grounds within Vampire Territory with a deep cultural significance to the vampires, sitting in the foothills of the Mirrored Peaks. The castle within is a meeting grounds for vampires of all creeds and ranks, from the highest of Kings to the lowliest bandit. The safety of all is ensured on these grounds. The castle is vast and filled with various chambers such as a bar, a dinning hall, a great library, and a theatre for performances. Faust is the assembly location for vampires called to the Culling, an ancient ritual trial. As one would expect Faust is drab, dark, and dreary like the rest of the Dark Lands. The Gates of Faust divide the continent of Valendor in half, with everything north of the Gates being Vampire Territory. It is said the Gates have never been breached in all the years they have stood.

Ancestra[]

Located in the south of the Svellheirm, Ancestra works a the headquarters of the Cross-Allied Forces and as a trade point with the Order of Grizna that has most of the banks of the world and the Tower of Rain.

Path of the six and Skorge of Seven[]

On both sides of the river separating the continents of Svellheimr and Mai Xion near Saigon and West of Ancestra there is a tower. On the Svellheimr side it is named "Path of the Six" and is the headquarters of the Paladins of the Path of the Six. On the Mai Xion side it is named "Skorge of Seven" and is owned by Greenskins. Both sides seem to be having a 'measuring contest' of sorts with their tower names.

Saigon[]

Is a the biggest country in Mai Xion and one of the most mysterious one in the known world. Saigon has been known to be closed to outsiders from quite some time but their cultural influences has spread all over the world.

The Mirrored Peaks[]

Mirrored Peaks is sacred ground to the vampires. It is believed to be where the "curse" originated. It is a cursed mountain range deep within the Dark Lands and worthy vampires are summoned there to be judged and tested. Upon passing the test, the Peaks forge a physical object from the soul of the vampire which is called a "Scar"

Sjombal[]

Is a magical school in Isandar where Liang and Ellie studied before transferring to Ascension.

Noria City[]

The city that housed the primary headquarters of the Ymra church experienced a collapse following the defeat and exposure of Ymra's malevolent actions. The city's downfall stemmed from its heavy dependence on Ymra and his religious institution to uphold social order and support the local economy. As a consequence, numerous residents fled, seeking refuge in Cari Town or neighboring towns.

United Sanctuary[]

TBA

Dead Marsh[]

The dead marsh is what remained after the battle between Lorn Barnes and the Inquisition versus La Fey undead forces.

Trivia[]

  • There is a village near the center of Astaria named Jhonk that has elected a goose as mayor. Not even one of the talking geese race like were encountered in the Camp Cari mission- just an ordinary goose.
  • A war was waged recently on the northern portion of Astaria involving the Eios and Eskana. Carver served in the Eiosian Navy during this war, and it seems the Cross-Allied Forces did not intervene meaningfully.
  • The map of the World used on this page was drawn in character by Lnik and is not perfectly accurate. Many areas are left blank or vague, such as the Astarian Jungles, the Whispering Woods, and much of the Dark Lands due to a general lack of information on them in universe. Information on various regions was brainstormed and written by many members of the Ascension Academy RP Out of Character, and the map was drawn by Ranger Savage.
  • Lnik has been seeking updated information of areas of the world from fellow Ascension Academy students so he can update his work further, including asking Chipz for more information on the vampiric Dark Lands.
