Backstory[]

Childhood[]

Aarick was born in the early winter to a loving mother. His father, Tarstor Atterton, had taken a fancy to her when visiting his summer manor in early spring. She was a lady of no account, a maid who tended to Tarstor’s every need. After Arrick’s birth, Tarstor paid the woman and boy no mind, and left her to take care of the boy.

At the age of 7 Aarick’s mother was stricken down by a wave of plague that was ravaging the lands. Before that time he had not been told that he was the bastard son of Tarstor Atterton, but the other workers at the manor gave him the information. This revelation took the boy back and the only thing on his mind was a cold rage.

On Lord Atterton’s next visit to his summer manor, he was confronted by a boy of 8. When he opened the door to his manor, the boy stood before him. Steel eyed and a gaunt stare, the child held a fighting posture, training sword in hand trained to attack.

When Tarston took a step forward, the boy took the opportunity to swing for the Lord’s ankle. The Lord took the strike, then grabbed the boy’s arm.

“No son of mine will strike me.” The Lord bellowed, then smacked the boy across the face. The boy was knocked to the ground and he continued “Now grab my bags, we have work to do.” and strode up the stairs to his study.

Teenage[]

Aarick had spent the rest of his days in close proximity to his father, learning what he could in the books from the Scribery and whatever the Merrick of the local guard would teach him with the sword. He honed his skills in swordsmanship against any that would combat him, and would join the guards on their rounds around the town.

By age 14 he would join the yearly summer festival’s tournaments, of course he did not one one until he was 18 years of age. After that time he proceeded to continue to win every few years.

Early Adulthood[]

As years went on Aarick aided his father in more and more provincial affairs. Using his honed sword to round up any ne'er-do-wells and present them for punishment. However strict the punishments seemed, in Aarick’s mind they were for the protection of the land.

On one such occasion, he was on the hunt for a camp of bandits that had been rumored to be hiding on the outskirts of the Badaria Forest. After tracking them down and confronting them, he felt sympathy for the plights they told him and set them free. Not a few months later he rounded up the same group of bandits after they had attacked a small town near the forest. From this point on Aarick vowed never let the words of the unjust sway his decisions.

Adulthood[]

Aarick, now 35 years of age, has seen many battles and skirmishes. Lord Atterton has given him command of a small regiment of troops and Aarick is eager to prove his worth to his father once and for all.

Death[]

Upon the battlefield of Castle Leydford, Aarick Atterton died to two musket rounds to the chest.
